In September 1991, Huawei rented the third floor of the industrial building in Haoye Village, Bao'an County, Shenzhen, as the site for developing program-controlled switches. More than fifty young employees followed Ren Zhengfei to this dilapidated factory building and began their arduous and uncertain entrepreneurial journey. They divided the entire floor into four sections: single board, power supply, overall testing, and preparation, plus a warehouse and kitchen. People worked day and night sweating under the high temperature of the machines, designing and making circuit boards, switchboards, soldering circuit boards, writing software, debugging, modifying, and debugging again. Under such circumstances, Ren Zhengfei almost daily inspected production and development progress on site, held meetings to study the difficulties faced, and coordinated the division of labor to solve various problems.
