Binds with CD41 to form the platelet glycoprotein lib/llla complex, involved in coagulation and thrombosis. It is a marker for bone marrow megakaryocytes and platelets, and can also mark myeloid and endothelial cells. It is highly sensitive to over-decalcification and can be used as an internal reference for the degree of decalcification.
Applications:
1. Identification of small megakaryocytes in bone marrow biopsy;
2. Diagnosis of acute megakaryoblastic leukemia;
3. CD61 expression is very low or almost absent in platelet dysfunction.
