CMV (Cytomegalovirus) is an opportunistic pathogen that infects the lungs, kidneys, intestines, and other organs, belonging to the herpesvirus family. During replication within infected cells, CMV produces viral proteins classified as immediate-early, early, and late proteins. Early proteins are expressed in the nucleus of infected cells between 3 to 24 hours post-infection, while some late viral proteins appear in the nucleus and cytoplasm of infected cells after 48 to 72 hours. Literature indicates that CMV infection can be detected in tumor tissues such as breast cancer, colon cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, medulloblastoma, and glioma. It is mainly used for research on CMV infectious diseases and can also help distinguish CMV infection from other viral infections (such as adenovirus and herpes simplex virus).
