CK7 (Cytokeratin 7) has a molecular weight of 54 kDa and is a type II (basic) cytokeratin. It primarily marks glandular and transitional epithelium, expressed in the epithelium of the ovary, endometrium, cervix, lung, thyroid, and breast, but not expressed in the epithelium of the colon, prostate, and gastrointestinal tract. Its expression in certain tumors is associated with prognosis; for example, in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, some CK7-positive tissues have a poorer prognosis and shorter survival time. Combined use of Villin and CK20 helps determine the primary site of metastatic tumors.
