Specifications
Ki-67 antigen is a human nuclear protein and a marker of cell proliferation. It mainly marks cells in proliferative states, expressed during the G1, S, M, and G2 phases of the cell cycle, but not in the G0 phase. It helps distinguish between cell division and apoptosis. The degree of cell proliferation, indicated by the ratio of cell division, correlates with tumor prognosis; a high proliferation rate in tumor cells suggests a poor prognosis.
It aids in differentiating follicular lymphoma from reactive follicular hyperplasia; for example, low Ki-67 expression tends to indicate the former.
In Burkitt's lymphoma, over 80% of tumor cells are Ki-67 positive. Combined use with bcl-2 assists in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of Burkitt's lymphoma.
In condyloma acuminatum tissue, Ki-67 is positively expressed in epidermal spinous layer vacuolated cells, while true epidermal spinous layer cells are negative for staining.
