Specifications
Galectin-3 is a type of cell adhesion lectin, composed of a β-galactoside-binding protein (Galectin-3 domain) and a chimeric structure of laminin. It is involved in various cellular functions such as apoptosis and cell adhesion. It is widely expressed in various types of immune cells in human tissues (macrophages, monocytes, dendritic cells, eosinophils, giant cells, NK cells, and activated T and B lymphocytes), epithelial cells, endothelial cells, and sensory neurons. In the progression of certain colorectal and breast cancers, downregulation of Galectin-3 may facilitate the interaction between cancer cells and laminin, promoting tumor invasion and metastasis. It is used in combination with CK19 for the diagnosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma; it is an effective marker for anaplastic large cell lymphoma; and can serve as a reference indicator for tumor malignancy.
