Lymphocyte activation gene. Marks large cell anaplastic lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease R-S cells, activated T and B cells. Membrane and cytoplasmic positivity is common in lymphohematopoietic system tumors, including HL, ALCL, and some large cell lymphomas; diffuse positivity is common in non-lymphohematopoietic system tumors, such as pancreatic cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, undifferentiated carcinoma, and melanoma. It can also be expressed in germ cell tumors, such as embryonal carcinoma.
Used for the diagnosis of anaplastic large cell lymphoma; diagnosis of Hodgkin lymphoma; differential diagnosis of embryonal carcinoma (96% of cases positive) from seminoma (0/89), yolk sac tumor (0/51), and choriocarcinoma (0/10); for CD30-positive non-lymphohematopoietic tumors, CK and melanoma markers should be simultaneously labeled to further differentiate epithelial tumors or melanoma.
