TLE1 (Transducin like enhancer of split 1) is located at chromosome 9q21.32 and is a member of the TLE gene family. It is involved in the differentiation of hematopoietic cells, neurons, and terminal epithelium. It is expressed in basal layer cells, adipocytes, peripheral nerve cells, endothelial cells, and mesothelial cells. It is specifically expressed in synovial sarcoma and rarely expressed in schwannoma and pleomorphic sarcoma. TLE1 has higher sensitivity and specificity in synovial sarcoma compared to Bcl-2, EMA, and CK, and can be used as a marker for synovial sarcoma to aid in differential diagnosis from other tumor types.
