PGP9.5 (Protein gene product 9.5) is a neuron-specific protein widely distributed in neurons and nerve fibers of the central and peripheral nervous systems, neuroendocrine cells, renal tubules, testicular spermatogonia, Leydig cells, follicular center cells, as well as certain cells in both pregnant and non-pregnant corpora lutea. It is used to mark neurons and diagnose some neuroendocrine tumors, and can also specifically mark cellular inclusions present in certain neurodegenerative diseases.
