Annexin-A1 (ANXA1) is a 37 kDa member of the annexin superfamily and has been found to be involved in regulating various cellular functions in multiple cell types. There is also substantial evidence indicating the role of ANXA1 in several anti-inflammatory processes, such as the regulation of neutrophil migration and macrophage phagocytosis. In the central nervous system, ANXA1 is abundantly expressed in microglia. Extensive research has shown that the biological functions of ANXA1 are tightly regulated by post-translational modifications (PTMs), such as phosphorylation or SUMOylation.
