Human red blood cell glucose transporter protein, responsible for transporting glucose into epithelial cells, is a member of the glucose transporter protein family unique to mammals. It is normally expressed in red blood cells, testes and germ cells, renal tubules, endothelial cells, etc.
Applications:
1. 97% of juvenile capillary hemangioma endothelial cells are positive while vascular malformations are not expressed, which can be used for differential diagnosis between the two.
2. Differential diagnosis between anaplastic thyroid carcinoma and follicular carcinoma;
3. Differential diagnosis between papillary renal cell carcinoma and clear cell papillary renal cell carcinoma;
4. Cytological diagnosis of body cavity effusions to distinguish benign (-) from malignant (+);
5. Differential diagnosis between benign and malignant mesothelioma, with benign mesothelioma generally negative;
7. Commonly strongly expressed in colorectal cancer;
8. Differential diagnosis between thymic carcinoma (commonly positive) and thymoma (commonly negative);
9. Can serve as a marker for breast cancer patients' responsiveness to hormone therapy.
