Cam5.2, also known as CK8/18, is a type of cytokeratin with molecular weights of 52.5KD and 45kD respectively. It is mainly expressed in adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma (including spindle cell carcinoma), but often shows negative expression in squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix, vagina, and esophagus.
Cam5.2 has a high positive rate in neuroendocrine tumors (including small cell carcinoma and Merkel cell carcinoma), and more than 10% of melanomas may show focal positivity.
Cam5.2 is often positive in hepatocellular carcinoma, renal cell carcinoma, cholangiocarcinoma, germ cell tumors (except seminoma), mesothelioma, synovial sarcoma, epithelioid sarcoma, thymoma, smooth muscle tumors, meningioma, neuroblastoma, anaplastic large cell lymphoma, epithelioid hemangioendothelioma, epithelioid hemangioma, PNET, malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor, and clear cell carcinoma.
