Inhibin-a is a heterodimer composed of two different subunits, alpha and beta. Immunohistochemical staining commonly uses anti-inhibin-a antibodies.
Applications:
1. Sensitive and relatively specific marker for sex cord-stromal tumors;
2. Differential diagnosis between endometrial stromal tumors (negative) and sex cord-stromal tumors (positive);
3. Commonly positive in choriocarcinoma syncytiotrophoblasts and intermediate trophoblasts, adrenal cortical cells and tumors, medulloblastoma, etc.
