Product Introduction:

p57(kip2) is a CDK inhibitor and tumor suppressor gene located at chromosome 11p15.5. It negatively regulates the cell cycle by blocking the transition from G1 to S phase, thereby inhibiting cell proliferation and tumor formation. This gene is expressed from the maternal allele, while the paternal allele expression is suppressed due to imprinting. In the decidua during pregnancy, p57(kip2) is positively expressed in decidual cells but negative in secretory glands. In a normal placenta, cytotrophoblasts, intermediate trophoblasts, and villous stromal cells express p57(kip2) positively, whereas the syncytiotrophoblast layer is negative. Complete hydatidiform moles are entirely derived from paternal DNA, and cytotrophoblasts and villous stromal cells do not express p57(kip2); however, normal decidua and intermediate trophoblasts show positive expression, serving as an internal positive control. Partial hydatidiform moles are triploid, composed of one maternal and two paternal haploid genomes, and express p57(kip2). This marker can be used to differentiate between partial and complete hydatidiform moles.
