Oct-2 (Octamer binding transcription factor 2) is a B cell-specific transcription factor and a member of the POU domain transcription factor family. It can bind to DNA containing octamer motifs to regulate gene transcription. It plays a role in germinal center formation and the differentiation of B cells into plasma cells. Under normal conditions, it is highly expressed in all mature B cells; expressed at low levels in pre-B cells, T cells, and myeloid cells; and not expressed in dendritic cells, macrophages, endothelial cells, or epithelial cells of the gastrointestinal mucosa, skin, and thymus. It is mainly used to identify B cells and B cell lymphomas and can also be used to differentiate nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma from classical Hodgkin lymphoma.
