PD-1 (Programmed death-1) is also known as CD279. It is an important immune inhibitory molecule and a member of the CD28 superfamily, mainly expressed on germinal center-associated helper T cells and CD8-positive T cells. Immune regulation targeting PD-1 plays a significant role in anti-tumor, anti-infection, autoimmune disease treatment, and organ transplant survival. PD-1 is a marker for angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) and can be used to differentiate primary cutaneous CD4-positive small/medium pleomorphic T-cell lymphoma from other cutaneous T-cell lymphomas.
