MBP (Myelin basic protein) is the main component of myelin sheath structural proteins. It is positively expressed in neuromas, neurofibromas, tumors with neural differentiation (ganglioneuroblastoma, ganglioneuroma, paraganglioma), gliomas, and granular cell tumors. Combined use of CD57 and GFAP is employed for the differential diagnosis between neurofibroma (MBP+, CD57+, GFAP+) and neurogenic nevus (MBP-, CD57-, GFAP-).
