CD21, also known as CR2 (complement receptor 2), EBV receptor, or C3d receptor, is a member of the complement activation regulatory protein family. The function of CD21 is to promote B cell proliferation, mediate EBV transformation of B cells, and participate in immune memory. CD21 is mainly distributed on mature B cells and follicular dendritic cells. It is primarily used for the diagnosis of follicular lymphoma, angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, follicular dendritic cell sarcoma, and research on immune complement activation regulation.
It can be used for differential diagnosis of the following tumors:
(1) Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma versus other spindle cell tumors;
(2) Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma versus other types of T-cell lymphomas.
