Arginase-1 is an enzyme that uses arginine as a substrate to catalyze its breakdown into ornithine and urea, and is a key component of the urea cycle. As a cytoplasmic enzyme, Arginase-1 is specifically expressed in hepatocytes, but not in bile duct epithelial cells, liver sinusoidal endothelial cells, Kupffer cells, or vascular endothelial cells. It serves as a sensitive and specific marker for hepatocellular adenoma and hepatocellular carcinoma, and can be used in combination with Glypican-3 and Hepatocyte to differentiate primary hepatocellular carcinoma from metastatic tumors and cholangiocarcinoma.
