CD1a is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily, with a molecular structure similar to MHC class I molecules. It is mainly expressed on dendritic cells, Langerhans cells, and thymic cortical cells, with 70% of thymic cells testing positive, while early or mature thymic cells often do not express it. In clinical diagnosis, CD1a can be used for the classification of thymomas; it can also be used to differentiate thymic tumors from primary lung tumors; combined with S100, it can be used for the diagnosis of Langerhans cell histiocytosis.
