CD43 is a transmembrane glycoprotein and a type of cell adhesion molecule. It is mainly expressed on T cells, myeloid cells, macrophages, and plasma cells, but not on normal B cells or reactive B cells. The expression of CD43 in various lymphohematopoietic tumors is complex: 90% of T lymphoblastic lymphoma, 30% of low-grade B cell lymphoma, 69% of acute B lymphoblastic leukemia, 97% of acute T lymphoblastic leukemia, 44% of anaplastic large cell lymphoma, all extramedullary myeloma/granulocytic sarcoma, and some myelomas. It is often used together with other T cell markers (such as CD3 and CD45RO) for the auxiliary diagnosis of T cell lymphoma.
It can be used for differential diagnosis of the following tumors:
(1) Chronic B lymphoblastic leukemia, small B cell lymphoma, mantle cell lymphoma, and follicular lymphoma;
(2) Neoplastic B lymphocytes and reactive B lymphocytes.
