The CD79 complex is a heterodimer molecule (CD79a and CD79b) that, together with membrane-bound immunoglobulins on the surface of B cells, forms the B cell antigen recognition receptor (BCR) and participates in signal transduction for B cell activation. CD79a is expressed in B cells from the pre-B cell stage to the mature plasma cell stage. Due to the decreased expression of CD79a during the terminal differentiation phase, immune responses occurring at this time may be due to cross-reactivity of CD79b. B cell lymphomas express CD79a, and even in cases where CD20 positivity disappears after anti-CD20 therapy, CD79a remains positive. It is commonly used in combination with other antibodies for the diagnosis of B cell lymphoma.
