Cytokeratin 19 is the keratin with the lowest molecular weight and, together with CK7, is known as cholangiocytic cytokeratin. CK19 does not stain hepatocytes but shows specific staining for bile duct epithelium and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC).
Applications:
1. Differentiation between thyroid follicular papillary carcinoma and follicular carcinoma;
2. Differentiation between cholangiocarcinoma and hepatocellular carcinoma;
3. Differentiation between chordoma and chondroid chordoma.
