CD38 is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 45 kDa, involved in signal transduction, cell adhesion, and other functions. CD38 is expressed on thymocytes, precursor T and B cells, activated T or B cells, plasma cells, monocytes, and most NK cells. In CLL, more than 30% of tumor cells express CD38, which is a poor prognostic factor. It is mainly used for the diagnosis of plasmacytoma.
