ER is the estrogen receptor, which stains positive in normal breast tissue, endometrium, and uterine smooth muscle.
It is mainly used for detecting breast cancer, endometrial cancer, and ovarian cancer. The staining results are related to the patient's treatment drug selection plan. ER-positive patients respond well to endocrine therapy, have a low recurrence and metastasis rate, and a high survival rate.
ER can also be expressed in epithelioid leiomyoma, malignant melanoma, meningioma, sclerosing hemangioma, fibromatosis, thymoma, thyroid adenoma, salivary gland adenoma, sweat gland adenoma, invasive angio-myxoma of the pelvis, some lung cancers, and certain chordomas of the bone base.
