MPO (Myeloperoxidase) is an important enzyme in granulocytes involved in the phagocytosis and lysis of foreign bodies, playing a role in the production and regulation of inflammatory responses in the body. It is mainly expressed in neutrophils and monocytes, but not in erythroid precursors, lymphoid cells, prokaryotic cells, mast cells, plasma cells, or various epithelial tumors and sarcomas. It is a sensitive and specific marker for myeloid leukemia and granulocytic sarcoma. It is primarily used for immunophenotyping acute leukemia and diagnosing granulocytic sarcoma, and can also be used to differentiate acute leukemia from certain lymphomas.
