Insulin-like growth factor II mRNA-binding protein 3 (IMP3) is an oncofetal protein belonging to the insulin-like growth factor II mRNA-binding protein family. It regulates RNA transport and stability during early embryogenesis. In adult tissues, IMP3 is expressed at low levels or not at all, but it is overexpressed in malignant tumors such as gastric, colon, pancreatic, lung, renal cell, and liver cancers.
1. Positive in endometrial serous adenocarcinoma and clear cell adenocarcinoma;
2. A prognostic marker for renal cell carcinoma;
3. IMP3 is usually negative in reactive proliferative mesothelial cells, whereas malignant mesothelioma is often positive.
