RCC (Renal cell carcinoma marker) is a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 200kDa. It is expressed on the luminal surface of the proximal tubules and Bowman's capsule in normal kidneys, the luminal surface of normal breast lobules and ducts, the luminal surface of epididymal tubules, as well as within the chief cells of the parathyroid gland and the colloid in thyroid follicles. Positive expression is found in 93% of primary renal cell carcinomas and 67-84% of metastatic renal cell carcinomas. The positive expression varies among different types of renal cell carcinoma: about 85% of clear cell RCC and nearly 93% of papillary RCC are positive, while chromophobe RCC and sarcomatoid carcinoma show less positivity; collecting duct carcinoma and eosinophilic adenoma are negative. Additionally, varying degrees of positive expression are also observed in breast cancer, embryonal carcinoma, parathyroid tumors, yolk sac tumors, and basal cell carcinoma of the skin. CD10 and Vimentin are used together for the diagnosis of renal cell carcinoma.
