Product Introduction:

p53 is a tumor suppressor gene located on chromosome 17p13. This gene encodes a protein with a molecular weight of 43.7 kDa, but because the protein band appears at 53 kDa on the marker, it is named p53. Normal p53, also known as wild-type p53, is expressed in the nuclei of all normal cells. However, due to its short half-life (10-20 minutes), it is difficult to detect by immunohistochemistry, usually showing negative or sparse weak expression. p53 negatively regulates cell growth and division by binding to DNA. When DNA is damaged, p53 halts the cell cycle until DNA repair occurs; if repair is not possible, p53 induces apoptosis. Abnormal expression of p53 detected by immunohistochemistry is associated with Tp53 gene mutations. Abnormal p53 expression is found in various tumors including breast cancer, gastric cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, ovarian cancer, liver cancer, and respiratory tract tumors. It is mainly used in tumor research and can also serve as one of the indicators for tumor prognosis. The abnormal expression patterns of p53 can be classified as overexpression, complete loss, cytoplasmic, and wild-type. It can be used for differential diagnosis of the following tumors: (1) Uterine serous carcinoma and endometrioid carcinoma; (2) Malignant mesothelioma and reactive mesothelial proliferation; (3) Pulmonary sarcoma and inflammatory pseudotumor.
