CD7l, also known as TFR (Transferrin receptor), binds to different transferrins on the cell surface and is closely related to cell maturation, proliferation, and differentiation. It is expressed in placental syncytiotrophoblasts, muscle cells, basal keratinocytes, hepatocytes, pancreatic endocrine cells, spermatocytes, and erythroid precursor cells. CD71 can serve as an excellent marker for erythroid precursors, used to evaluate bone marrow biopsy specimens, and has the following characteristics:
(1) Clear boundaries between cell membrane staining and cytoplasmic staining patterns;
(2) Expression in bone marrow biopsy tissue is limited to the erythroid lineage;
(3) The expression level of CD71 decreases with the degree of erythrocyte maturation, being highest at early erythroid stages and lowest at normal erythrocyte stages;
(4) Mature erythrocytes do not express CD71.
