PSMA (Prostate specific membrane antigen) is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein synthesized by prostate epithelial cells, with a molecular weight of 110 kDa. It is expressed in both normal and tumor prostate epithelium, as well as in benign epithelial cells of some other tissues (such as breast, duodenum, kidney). It can also be expressed in neovasculature of prostate cancer and non-prostate tumors. In prostate cancer, PSMA expression positively correlates with tumor grade and hormone resistance. Combined detection with PSA and NKX3.1 is mainly used for the diagnosis of prostate cancer and metastatic prostate cancer, as well as for differential diagnosis between prostate cancer and urothelial carcinoma. Additionally, positive expression can be observed in tumors such as pancreatic cancer, renal cancer, breast cancer, gastrointestinal adenocarcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, and gastric adenocarcinoma.
