MUC2 (Mucin2) is a secreted glycoprotein rich in glycan chains, also known as intestinal-type mucus. It is mainly expressed in the intestinal epithelium, salivary gland epithelium, and mammary gland epithelium, and is not expressed in other epithelial tissues. Under physiological conditions, MUC2 is only expressed in normal intestinal mucosa (intestinal-type mucus), while MUC5AC and MUC6 are only expressed in normal gastric mucosa (gastric-type mucus). Therefore, the combined use of these three has certain significance in the differential diagnosis of gastrointestinal tumors. It is mainly used in the study of colon cancer and gastric cancer.
